London Design Festival 2016: the best in Interior Design and Home Décor trends

Britain might have opted to exit the EU this summer but there was still a fabulous global feel to the London Design Festival this year.

From Decorex to Design Junction via the various creative quarters and design districts we had the opportunity to check out the latest and hottest interior design and home décor trends! Here are our highlights of this fantastic week:

A new home for Design Junction

designjunction-1

One of the most exciting developments was the relocation of Design Junction, moving to the thriving Granary Square in King’s Cross. The area outside Central Saint Martins was filled with installations, the main focus of this year’s event being a two-floor lighting/furniture pavilion in Lewis Cubitt Square.

The whimsical, clam pendants from Decode  were one of the most stunning lighting installations we saw all week, as well as the ornate light fittings from 7 Gods Lighting which also reflect the brass and black trend that we have seen so much of.

We fell head over heels in love with the Bethan Gray stand that combined soft rose pinks with teal. Beautiful examples of handcrafted furniture, attention to detail and craftsmanship!

We love it when technology and interior design come together, and that’s exactly what happened when Sony joined forces with the Conran Shop to create Life Space UX. Everyday surfaces such as walls, ceilings and tables are taken to the next level when blended with amazing images and music.

Portuguese Brands at the various exhibitions

From 100% Design to Decorex and Tent, some of the most exciting Portuguese luxury furniture brands exhibited beautiful pieces, showcasing once again the country’s fantastic expertise, traditional craftsmanship and exceptionally high quality design.

Boca do Lobo, Munna Design, Brabbu and Duistt are already firm favourites in the British interior design world.

A number of lighting brands was also present, Delightful and Serip were amongst our top picks.

Bow and Arrow upholstery design was one of 100% design’s top revelations. They have showcased exclusive and customised pieces with high quality materials, paying true attention to detail and their commitment to quality can be seen in each and every piece.

Mercado da Pedra exhibited for the first time at Decorex. The luxurious stand really did justice to this fantastic Portuguese brand whose unique stone collections, especially conceived for architecture and interior design, are truly stunning.

The “Inspiring Portugal” stand at The London Design Fair aimed to showcase the contemporary design scene of a country where art and history have always worked hand-in-hand. Represented by 25 individual design companies, each product reflects a certain part of their national identity.

Aria and TWO.SIX design invited us to embark on a creative journey. This unique collaboration between two eclectic, innovative brands showcase the best of high quality design, past, present and future.  TWO.SIX brought to London all the vibrancy, passion and colour of the Portuguese spirit, as well as the meticulous dedication to detail of its international team of talented new designers. We had a fantastic launch evening at the Islington showroom where we viewed an exclusive range of TWO.SIX products, experiencing a creative fusion of art and design.

An afternoon at Luxury Made

duistt

Heralding a new, highly selective approach to luxury design events, LuxuryMade took place within a unique setting, some of which has been hidden from public view for over 20 years: Olympia’s Pillar Halls.

With just fifty of the very best manufacturers showcasing contemporary decorative and luxury furnishings, furniture, fabrics, lighting and accessories, LuxuryMade has now established itself as a key event within the London Design Festival with thousands of visitors attending over the 4 days.

One of our favourite Portuguese brands, Duistt, presented its new furniture collection at LuxuryMade and it is to die for! Our favourite was the Dawn bench with beautiful antique brass legs upholstered in velvet and fur.

We spent a whole afternoon admiring this beautiful Hall packed with the best there is in home décor and interior design, sipping a lovely glass Champagne. What a treat!
